As the weather warms, it’s the perfect time to address any winter damage and prepare your home for spring and summer.

Inspect the Roof and Gutters

  • Check for any loose, cracked, or missing shingles from winter storms.
  • Clear gutters and downspouts of debris and ensure they drain properly away from the foundation.

Inspect the Foundation and Drainage

  • Look for cracks in the foundation and re-caulk or repair them before they widen.
  • Check that the soil slopes away from the foundation to prevent water pooling.

Check Exterior Paint and Siding

  • Look for peeling paint or damaged siding, which can lead to moisture infiltration.
  • Power wash the exterior to remove mildew, dirt, and built-up grime.

Service the Air Conditioning Unit

  • Schedule professional maintenance for (the “Spring Check-Up”).

  • Clean the outdoor unit (condenser) of winter debris and vegetation.

Inspect Outdoor Faucets and Sprinklers

  • Turn on exterior water faucets slowly and check for leaks in the pipes (potential freeze damage)
  • Test your sprinkler system and adjust heads as needed.

Change Furnace Filters & Test AC

  • Replace the filter in your furnace/HVAC system.
  • Run the air conditioning briefly to ensure it is working effectively before the heat hits.

Clear Dryers Vents

  • Clean out the dryer and hose to remove lint buildup, which is a major fire hazard.

Check Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

  • Replace batteries (even if you did in the fall) tests all units.

Inspect Doors and Windows

  • Check weather stripping and seals after winter exposure.

Kitchen

  • Clean garbage disposal
  • Wipe down cabinets in and out
  • Scrub inside of microwave
  • Clean out fridge
  • Wipe down backsplash
  • Wash and disinfect garbage can
  • Deep clean dishwasher
  • Clean hood range
  • Disinfect all surfaces
  • Wipe down appliances
  • Deep clean oven and stovetop

Living Room

  • Dush shelves
  • Dust tabletops
  • Dust electronics
  • Clean and vacuum sofas
  • Wash throw blankets
  • Wash curtains
  • Dust fan or light fixture
  • Clean windows and walls vacuum rug with baking soda

Bedroom

  • Dust furniture & Decor Wash bedding and pillows
  • Rotate mattress clean curtains
  • Dust fan and light fixtures

Bathroom

  • Wash rugs
  • Clean cabinets in and out
  • Scrub toilet
  • Wash and disinfect trash can replace toothbrushes
  • Clean shower class or replace curtain

Laundry Room

  • Deep clean washer
  • Clean out dryer vents and ducts
  • Refresh soaps and softners

Misc

  • Change air filters clean air vents
  • Wash windows in and out
  • Wipe down baseboards and molding make drywall repairs and paint
  • Disinfect door handles
  • Wipe down all mirrors
  • Clean under beds
